New Song Released Today "Get Your Head On Straight"

Catching Up - Part Three!

I am proud to have my song "Get Your Head On Straight" as the lead off track in this newly released compilation. It was inspired by playing Japanese style drums with TaikoZoku blended with my quirky home recording experiments.

Get Your Head On Straight

Yoga hairdo place-mat square-view
Robotic breakthrough slogan voodoo
Sunglass divide feelings disguise
Take them off reveal your eyes

Worn-out sandals user handles
Threads entangle rasslers wrangle
Hair in knots blood in clots
Don't let it go connect the dots

Ooh put your feet on the ground
Get your head on straight
Put your feet on the ground
Ooh get your head on straight
Put your feet on the ground
Put your feet on the ground

Hungry cooks empty kitchens
Factory farms and televisions
Serving up fake provisions
You can make your own decisions
Do one and then do another
A sister is a brother and a brother is a mother
Love one and then one another
A lover is a lover is a lover is a lover

Ooh put your feet on the ground
Get your head on straight
Put your feet on the ground
Ooh get your head on straight
Put your feet on the ground
Put your feet on the ground

You are a rainbow and a river
You are blanket and a shelter
You are a forest and a planet
You are a sweet pomegranate

Ooh put your feet on the ground
Get your head on straight
Put your feet on the ground
Ooh get your head on straight
Put your feet on the ground
Put your feet on the ground
Put your feet on the ground
Put your feet on the ground

That's all,  for now!

Catching Up - Part Two: Rocking With The Poor Man's Opera

I wrote a song about dancing the night away to my favorite local bar band The Poor Man's Opera and then I thought "Wouldn't it be great if I could get them to record it with me?"  Sometimes all you need to do is ask!  They said yes and we cut tracks at the beautiful Storybook Sound Studio.  Here are a couple of photos from the session.

Lot of Catching Up To Do - Part One: The Campfire Flies

Hi.... I haven't posted here for a while.... here are a few highlights of what's been keeping me busy.

I love playing and performing with The Campfire Flies.  We performed at two wonderful outdoor events - The Rent Party Picnic and The Hoboken Fall Art and Music Festival.  Below is a video of "Lost My Place in A Small Town" performed in Hoboken.  Next up for us is recording our first album!

I am honored to have my song "Dear Leader" included on the Rock The LUP compilation!  It's one of my goofy experimental home recordings.  You can stream it here:

All proceeds from the sale of downloads of Rock the LUP compilation go to the Lupus Research Alliance to help fund Lupus research, find new treatments and hopefully a cure.

The Campfire Flies

Sharing songs with friends turned into a wonderful new group called The Campfire Flies featuring Jon Fried from The Cucumbers, Matt Davis from The Thousand Pities, John & Toni Baumgartner & Ed Seifert from Speed The Plough . Everybody plays multiple instruments, sings and writes songs. It's been lots of fun! Here's a video from our debut performance at The HiFi Bar in NYC on August 24, 2016. It was so much fun, I can't wait for the next performance!

Great Review of The Cucumbers!

The Cucumbers / The Fake Doom Years (1983-1986) / Lifeforce (
Part of the 1980s Hoboken scene that also spawned The Feelies, The Bongos, Yo La Tengo, The Fleshtones, The dB’s, and Rage to Live, The Cucumbers were the most adorable of the bunch, The college sweethearts, then husband-and-wife team of vocalist-guitarists Deena Shoskes and Jon Fried penned a catchy, comic catalog first heard on the local indie Fake Doom Records. Before the advent of CD, the Cukes released three critically acclaimed vinyl efforts for Fake Doom that landed them on MTV and in Rolling Stone: the 1983 self-titled EP, the 1985 full-length, “Who Betrays Me … and Other Happier Songs,” and the 1986 single of the Elvis Presley classic “All Shook Up.”
Now available digitally for the first time, the three releases have been collected on the 19-song “The Fake Doom Years (1983-1986).” If you love indie pop, then you’ll dig one of its local pioneers. If The Cucumbers’ biggest hit, “My Boyfriend,” doesn’t make you tap your toe, check your pulse.
The 1985-era band, featuring John Williams on bass and Yuergen Renner on drums, will perform one show only to celebrate the release of the digital retrospective on May 13 at the nonprofit Rent Party in Maplewood.
